Yes, I am Karen, but not like the bad Karens you see on Facebook or TikTok videos. I don’t know how the name came to be associated with rude, entitled, nasty, foul-mouthed women that get out of control if their French fries are soggy. To be honest, it’s not a name I’ve liked much. I mean, it’s so ordinary. I’m far from ordinary and knew it at an early age. Why couldn’t I’ve been named Jeanette, Adrienne, or Tatiana? My Dad picked Karen because it was easy to spell. Now that I think about it, all my siblings have names that are five or less letters. Perhaps that is why Karen stigma began. It’s easy to spell. “Look at THIS Tatiana!” Doesn’t carry the same level of ridicule as Karen.
I have been a writer for years and started writing columns about my life as a stay-at-home mom. I’ve written a few children’s theatre plays that were performed by a company. Prior to becoming a mom, I was an actress, dancer and director. Once the first baby came along, that career was over. When the kids started school, I was offered a job as a moderator for an online community. I was working in Social Media before it was called that. It truly was the Wild West of people interacting via the internet. For almost 25 years, I managed, moderated and created content for multiple web site communities.
Currently I have been sharing on Facebook my battle with Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer, which has metastasized to my brain. Family and friends have encouraged me to write a book. The thought of doing that is overwhelming. Therefore, I decided to publish my musings, which many have said are humorous here. If anyone has a laugh or those struggling through a similar battle find it inspiring and helpful, that is good with me.
It won’t always be about my health. I have a lot to say about many things. If you’re desperate to hear more, you can subscribe. It’s free.
If you write it, we will read it😘❣️
I hope this starts you on the path to a book. Or at least a compilation of essays. You are too good a writer to stop now!
