American Cancer Society Writing Challenge Fundraiser
It ain’t over until this fat lady says so.
American Cancer Society Writing Challenge Fundraiser-Day 1
When deciding to do this writing challenge, I thought it would be more about my own experience with CB (aka Cancer Bitch). She has been grabbing me in all the most vulnerable places for close to three years now. However, for my first entry, I chose to focus on Chase. He is a thirteen-year-old cousin that has never known a day without CB’s presence hovering over his shoulder.
Chase was two-years-old when a large mass was discovered in his brain. The prognosis was he most likely would not make it beyond his fourth birthday. And yet, he just recently celebrated his 13th birthday! Atta boy, Chase! Have there been sacrifices? Of course. However, his indomitable spirit, faith, a fantastic medical team and support from those that love him keep whipping CB back to her cave. Due to all of the treatments he has endured, he naturally has issues with various neurological side effects. Yet, he continues to remain positive. In my opinion, positivity is CB’s Kryptonite. She wants you to give up. Chase hasn’t and neither will I!
As an adult, I’ve had various life experiences that could be described as having a full life. When you’re in pain, discouraged and hope is elusive, it’s easy to quit. What’s left to do? If it doesn’t bring joy, why bother? This is when I think of Chase and all pediatric cancer patients. So much they have missed in their early lives. So much yet to experience. Will they get that opportunity? For them and their families, I truly hope so.
This is why supporting research to banish any disease is so important. Stay positive! Donate if you can. This will take you to my personal donation page.

Let’s do it, Chase! As your amazing Mom would say, “Moment By Moment.”
